Start with the simplest cause: the screw isn’t staying engaged
The most common problem is a screw that doesn’t have enough usable thread in the knob or pull. If the screw bottoms out before it clamps the knob tightly, it may feel snug at first and then work loose with normal use. The same thing happens when a screw is just barely long enough to catch a few threads in thin material.
Another common issue is misalignment. If the screw enters the knob or door at a slight angle, it can bind instead of tightening cleanly. That makes it easier for the connection to settle, shift, and loosen again as the cabinet is opened and closed.
Sometimes the hardware itself is the issue. Cheap knobs, stripped machine threads, or worn mounting screws won’t hold tension well no matter how carefully you tighten them. If a screw spins too easily or never feels fully secure, the threads may already be compromised.
