Signs the bit holder is done

A damaged bit holder usually gives you a few warning signs before it fails completely. Bits may wobble in the socket, need a hard push to seat, or pop free when you reverse the driver. In some cases the spring mechanism gets lazy and the bit no longer clicks in with much confidence, which is the tool’s polite way of asking for retirement.

You may also notice rust, broken detents, bent sleeves, or a collar that doesn’t move smoothly. If the holder is part of a quick-change chuck or magnetic adapter, the wear might show up as poor retention rather than visible damage.
